News from General
Secretary
Dave Prentis, UNISON's
General Secretary says:
“Next week’s pre-budget report offers the chancellor a good
opportunity to reassert the government’s commitment to fairness and social
responsibility.
We will be looking for a package that protects jobs, homes, pensions and living
standards of working people.
We will be calling for public investment to create and sustain jobs, a windfall
tax on energy companies to help the lower paid with fuel bills, a halt to house
repossessions and changes to tax and benefits.
And we shall be looking for medium term measures that reduce the economy’s
dependence on financial speculation and redirect investment into productive
industry and public services."
